E-Books Become More Popular As The Public Adopts E-Book Readers
The consumer market for e-book readers, and the e-books to read upon them, absolutely exploded in 2009. E-book readers have been around for over a decade. The Franklin eBookman was launched in 1999. The Sony PRS reader launched in 2006 and Amazon's original Kindle reader launched in November of 2007.
However, it wasn't until the launch of Amazon's upgraded Kindle 2.0 in February of 2009 that e-book readers really went mainstream. Amazon followed up with the large format Kindle DX in the summer of 2009. By the end of the year Sony had launched three new PRS readers and Barnes and Noble had released their Nook reader.
The Kindle rapidly became the best selling product on the Amazon website and, over the festive season of 2009, became Amazon's "most gifted" product of all time. In the meantime, what e-book readers were being launched, Apple even get in on the market when they unveiled the new iPad - customers had plenty of options to choose from.
The market had developed, and was continuing to develop, at a very rapid rate. Although the public had quickly got used to the idea of e-book readers, the publishing houses were struggling to keep up. Some of the major publishing houses took exception to cheap e-book editions being made available immediately alongside the newly released hardback edition.
The publishing cycle is well established and has been in place for many years. Usually the hardback edition is released first and this is followed, usually after a gap of several months, by the paperback edition. This has now been supplemented by the addition of an e-book version. There is no reason to release the e-book version any later than the hardback version. This would be inadvisable anyway as e-book reader owners are, in all probability, going to be avid readers and therefore some of the best potential customers for any new book release. Of course, customers will not be willing to pay the same price for e-book that they would for hardback, or even a paperback, book. After all, there is no paper, ink or bindings involved and the cost of delivery for an e-book is a tiny fraction of the cost required to deliver a traditional paper book.
The advent of e-book readers has resulted in some difficult negotiations between book retailers and big publishing firms. Amazon's policy of placing e-books and $9.99 lower even lead to McMillan books being removed from the Amazon site for a short period. As already stated, the owners of e-book readers will be among the best customers of the major publishing companies. Unless these publishers adapt to the new technology and turn it to their advantage, they will lose customers and eventually go out of business.

Applying The 48 Laws Of Power
The 48 Laws of Power is the best-selling book written by Robert Green which offers an assortment of 48 laws that show individuals how you can obtain strength, preserve it, and defend themselves against those highly effective individuals who make their lives miserable. Compared with most self-help books, The 48 Laws of Power offers guidance that the author freely admits is, on occasion, cunning and amoral. It features lessons like "Law 1: Never outshine the master" and "Law 14: Pose as a friend, work as a spy."
In one's lifetime, you're better off following the teachings of Moses, Jesus, or Buddha to gain long-term happiness. But the sad simple fact is, numerous folks live by a quite different set of rules, and although most of those folks ultimately self-destruct, they are able to inflict severe harm on our personal and professional lives in the process.
The 48 Rules of Power is really a good primer for learning how these individuals believe. I've spotted several similar books in the Business section (like "Career Warfare" and classics like the "Art of War") of my local bookseller, but none put issues quite as succinctly as this one in particular. In the present predatory work culture of jobs that let you purchase a house and pay all of the bills monthly with a small amount remaining, you certainly is going to be the target of those strategies at some time. You'll want to go through books like these to know how several folks at the top think.
But do not live out some of those guidelines in your lifetime (e.g., crush your enemy totally) - because there will constantly be someone who does it better, and you will get crushed. Reality basically doesn't operate that way - and even should you survive professionally, the spiritual rot and private decay will leave you an isolated, paranoid wreck. Study this book within the spirit of C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters, by which a master demon offers tips to a protege on the way to destroy mortals. Understand how you can spot people who are living like this - and then stay extremely, far away. Jesus mentioned, "Be wise as serpents but innocent as doves." Reading The 48 Laws of Power in the appropriate spirit, will help you with both.
The lessons from The 48 Rules Of Power are distilled from colorful anecdotes lifted from 4,000 years of history. They include insights into the minds of highly effective folks including Al Capone, P.T. Barnum and Henry Kissinger. The book has proved being so popular it has resulted in many sequels, one recently co-authored by the well-liked rapper 50 Cent, known as "The 50th Law." Even though the book, The 48 Laws of Power, itself is more than 400 pages, just reading the laws themselves can be a starting stage for thought or discussion.

Want Free Publicity? Get Some TV Talk Show Performance Tips from the Seinfeld Show Acting Coach
Acting coach Judy Kerr was the on-set dialogue coach for the "Seinfeld" TV Show. She is the author of "Acting is Everything: An Actor's Guidebook for a Successful Career in Los Angeles." The book is now in its 11th edition and is one of the most respected books on the business of acting.
In addition to coaching actors, Kerr teaches business people how to perform well while selling their products in commercials and while being interviewed on television talk shows. Here are a few of her insider secrets for dazzling TV talk show hosts and audiences:
1. Practice the art of story telling. If you can tell a great story, TV talk show hosts and audiences will love you, according to Kerr. If you're not a great story teller, practice until you can keep people hanging on your every word.
2. "Get to the point of your message quickly," Kerr says. ""Assume the listener knows a lot about the subject, which means you don't have to give them every little detail, unless you have a great joke to tell them that is entertaining and part of the message."
3. You must know the story or message you are going to tell the audience ahead of time. On the bigger shows, the talent coordinator will interview you to get to know what you are going to discuss. On smaller shows, such as cable access and other lower level shows, help them out by giving them a list of questions to ask you.
4. Write out your stories and messages ahead of time. Kerr advises that you keep them short and to the point. If you are trying to sell a new product, make sure to tell people all of the things it can do, according to Kerr.
5. When one of the cameras is doing a solo shot on you, remember that you are there to talk to the host. Keep that person engaged as much as possible. Your primary focus should be on them.
6. There may be times when you want to talk into the camera. When you do, imagine that you are talking to one person in their living room. You might also imagine that it is someone who cares for you a lot, like one of your parents or a close friend. Pick someone who does not judge you.

Book Market Innovation From Amazon
Amazon is the world's largest book seller. It is also the biggest online retailer in the USA. The company was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 and now has separate websites in France, Germany, the UK, China and Canada. It is, to put it mildly, an extremely successful business.
It's easy to forget, given Amazon's current level of success, exactly what a radical idea buying books on the internet and then having them delivered by post was back in 1994. Many business analysts and investors predicted trouble, if not outright failure, for Amazon during its early years. It wasn't until the back end of 2001 that Amazon finally turned its first profit.
Having revolutionised the manner in which many people bought books, Amazon very quickly grew their portfolio by the addition of video, music CDs, toys and games and computer software. There are very few consumer items that can't be found on Amazon today. You can even do your grocery shopping with them if you like.
Although Amazon now have an enormous range of products on offer, there is still a very strong association with books. The company is clearly very passionate about books - so when the original Kindle e-book reader was launched in November of 2007, it was immediately obvious that this was the ideal product for Amazon - it fitted right in with their business model.
It's easy to forget the fact that the Kindle was not the first e-book reader on the market. That was the Franklin e-bookman, which launched in 1999 - more than ten years ago. The Sony PRS reader also left Amazon at the starting line when it launched in 2006. All the same, Amazon didn't suffer greatly as a result of their late entry to the market. Due to their powerful link with books, trust in the Amazon brand name and the fact that there was a large, and ever expanding, selection of Kindle books on offer, the Kindle easily overtook its competition. The February 2009 launch of the Kindle 2.0, followed by the launch of the DX model in June of the same year, further cemented Amazon's leadership position. The Kindle rapidly became Amazon's number one selling product.
At this time, the Kindle is still the leader of the pack in the e-book reader market - but competition is increasing at a rapid rate. Other e-book readers with color screens and touch screen controls are available. After only a few short months, the Kindle is starting to look just a little bit dated. Of course, analysing the e-book reader market purely in terms of the hardware capability is not valid.
The fact is that Amazon, probably more so than any of its current competitors, knows what people who read a lot of books - its best customers - value. This is the reason why we can expect to see Amazon's domination of the e-book reader market continuing in future. This is not the first reading revolution that Amazon have been involved in. They know what they're doing.
